Book Description
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.
Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?
My Thoughts
A new favorite. I still have a smile on my face. I love, love, love it. What a brilliant story. I'm so glad a read this book. From page one Mark Watney made me feel welcomed to his world and all the things happening in it. There were times I wished he was a real person so I could just hug him and tell him that everything was going to be ok, that there was nothing to worry about.
I have to say Mark Watney has become one of my favorite characters ever. I admire his sense of humor, even in the most difficult times. I love how his character is portrayed and how much we can learn from him.
Perfectly paced, well written, believable and reliable characters. I think is it very smart the way it is told, journal entries. It is clear all the research and hard work the Author put on this book. I appreciate that for being the first Sci-Fi book I read, it was not hard to read.
I love all the feelings and emotions this book made me go through. Humor, sadness, happiness, difficulty, serious and real things the characters go through and have to deal with that it was almost like it was happening to me. I love how real the book felt to me. It made me think a lot about life and how much our lives can change in a matter of minutes, like Mark's. Made me think of what is really important in life, what really matters.
The Martian, a book that will remain with me for a long time. One I totally recommend. One that can change the way you think about life, about people and what is really important.
